Where’s Chie?

Hey, everyone. So I know I haven’t posted here in a long time. And I’m sorry for that, but the honest truth is I haven’t been able to do much of anything lately.

Remember when I posted about my headache problems? Well, it turns out what I have is something called a New Chronic Daily Headache, which is a fancy way of saying a headache that comes out of no where and never goes away. It’s basically a migraine 24/7, 365, and I’ve had it since January.

I’ve tried several different medications, most of which had horrendous side effects (enough I could write a whole post about it another day) and didn’t really help. I’m very light-sensitive (and sometimes sound sensitive) so it makes even simple things like doing household chores or reading very difficult. Often, my head hurts so much I can’t even really think, which makes writing almost impossible.

I finally had botox treatment in August in the hopes that it would help with the headache, but the bad news is I won’t know until I get the treatment a second time (twelve weeks later, in November) whether or not it’ll work for me. As a result, I had no choice but to take the semester off of school and put my dream of becoming a sign language interpreter on hold.

Needless to say, the past few months have been very frustrating for me.

That doesn’t mean I have stopped writing–those of you who follow my twitter know that I’ve been posting In/Exhale‘s third season faithfully each week, and I’ve also been participating in a group collaboration. And I haven’t given up on my works in progress, either. I’ve been spending some time lately trying to map out Five Minutes to Midnight and hope I’ll be able to make some progress on a draft there, as an example.

But sadly there are a lot of days I can’t do much, and it’s depressing and frustrating since there isn’t much I can do about it. So far nothing really helps the headache, and it never, ever goes away.

So if I don’t post as much on here, I hope you guys’ll forgive me. I also decided not to post I/E here after all because it’s just too long and WP doesn’t really play well with it. So you can read the story on the story blog as always and I of course will put out an ebook when the season finishes.

Thanks to all of you for your support, your comments and reviews, they really mean a lot to me and encourage me to keep writing and sharing that writing with the world.

    Hi, Chie,
Sorry to hear how miserable you are feeling! Just wanted to let you know I am thinking about you and hoping you will begin to feel better very soon. I know what it is like to have to put your life on hold, but things will eventually get back to some semblance of ‘normal.’ Try to do things for yourself that will lift your spirits. Sometimes even little ‘special treats’ like a hot bath with relaxing music, or drinking your favorite tea next to a scented candle can do wonders.
